Powder brow healing – what to expect day by day
Author: Tsvety Bita, permanent makeup specialist

Powder brows go through several visual stages. The first days do not show the final result, and it is entirely possible for the colour to look too strong at first, then too light, and only then to settle.
The first 24–48 hours
Right after the treatment the area may be slightly red and sensitive. The colour looks darker and warmer, and the outline sharper. This is a combination of fresh pigment, the skin's reaction and surface moisture.
Follow only the instructions given for your specific treatment. Do not add oily products, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or home remedies at random.
- Touch the area only with clean hands.
- Do not rub or press.
- Do not cover with heavy makeup.
Days 3–7: darkening and fine flaking
The skin starts to renew and fine flaking may appear. The brows sometimes look uneven because different areas heal at different speeds.
The most important rule is not to remove the flakes by force. Picking can pull out pigment and prolong healing. Itching is usually part of the process, but severe pain, increasing swelling or discharge require a prompt assessment.
- Do not scratch the area.
- Avoid heavy sweating, saunas and swimming pools.
- Protect from direct sun.
Days 7–14: the colour may look very light
Once the surface flakes have come off, there is a new, more matte layer of skin over the area. It temporarily hides some of the colour and makes it seem as if the pigment has disappeared.
Do not rush to conclusions or add colour. The skin is still settling, and how visible the pigment looks keeps changing.
- Do not correct with harsh products.
- Wait for the time set by the specialist before wearing makeup on the area.
- Take photos in the same daylight if you are tracking the change.
After full healing and before the touch-up
The final result is assessed when the skin is calm, with no flaking, redness or sensitivity. Lighter areas are possible, especially with oily skin or weaker pigment retention.
The touch-up does not mechanically repeat the whole treatment. Specific areas, intensity and small details are corrected if necessary.
- Assess the shape and colour without heavy makeup.
- Tell us how you looked after the area.
- Do not book the touch-up before the skin is ready.

Frequently asked questions
Is it normal for one brow to flake faster?
Yes. The two sides can heal at different speeds because of sleeping position, oiliness, expressions and local skin characteristics.
What should I do if the colour seems to have disappeared?
Wait for full recovery. The new surface layer of skin can temporarily hide the colour.
When should I see a doctor?
If you have severe or increasing pain, significant swelling, pus, fever or any other worrying reaction, seek medical help.
The most accurate recommendation is made after an individual consultation and an assessment of your skin, natural hairs, shape and desired result.
