How to choose a brow shape for your face

The right brow shape is not determined only by whether your face is oval, round or square. Natural growth, the position of the eyes, bone structure, facial expressions and how you look in motion matter more.

Why universal templates are not enough

The three-point diagrams online are a useful guide, but they do not account for natural asymmetry. Followed mechanically, they can make brows look too high, too long or detached from the natural hairs.

A professional design is checked from the front, in profile and with different expressions. The shape should suit your everyday expressions, not just look good in a still photo.

  • The natural growth line.
  • The distance between the eyes.
  • The height and mobility of the forehead.
  • The position of the arch when the face is relaxed.

The start, arch and tail of the brow

The start should not be too dark or square, unless that is a deliberately chosen style. A softer start often looks more natural and does not close up the gaze.

The arch is determined by the bone structure and natural lift. The tail should not drop too low, because it can visually weigh down the eye.

  • A soft start for a more natural transition.
  • An arch that follows the anatomy.
  • A tail with enough, but not excessive, length.

How face shape affects visual balance

On a rounder face, a slightly defined arch can add vertical balance, but an overly sharp shape looks unnatural. On a longer face, an arch that is too high can lengthen the proportions even more.

On a more angular face, a soft line can balance the features. These are guidelines, not rules. The natural brow takes priority over the geometric category of the face.

  • Round face – a moderate, not overly sharp arch.
  • Long face – a more horizontal balance.
  • Angular face – a softer transition.
  • Oval face – preserving the natural harmony.

How to take part in the design before the treatment

Do not hesitate to ask for time to look at the preliminary drawing. Look at yourself from a normal distance, not just up close. Smile, raise your brows and see how the shape changes.

Discuss what you like and what worries you. Once pigmentation has started, big changes are not easy, so the design should be approved calmly.

  • Check the shape in daylight and indoor light.
  • Do not accept a design that makes you feel unrecognisable.
  • Leave room for natural ageing and changes in style.

Frequently asked questions

Should both brows be exactly the same?

No. The aim is a harmonious visual balance, because the two halves of the face naturally differ.

Can permanent makeup lift the brow?

The direction can be visually improved, but the natural hairs and anatomy must not be ignored.

How do I know if the shape suits me?

It should look harmonious with a relaxed face and with expressions, and it should not require constantly plucking a large part of your natural brow.

The most accurate recommendation is made after an individual consultation and an assessment of your skin, natural hairs, shape and desired result.
